Dry Needling is a highly efficient manual therapy technique for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. The approach is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles.Dry Needling involves the penetration of myofascial trigger points (MTrP) with a needle. The needle goes in and out theMTrP for several times, generating the muscle twitching response and makes it release. It is effective in dealing with myofascial pain and correcting the biomechanical dysfunction, normally with immediate and long lasting effect.

PSYCHOLOGICAL VARIABLES IN MANAGING OROFACIAL PAIN

Orofacial pain presents a major medical and social problem. (Hagreaves, 2011) The increasing number of patients suffering from various disorders affecting the orofacial region, poses a challenge on allied health professionals. Although several treatment programs have already been established, it is also time to focus on how psychological factors affects and help in managing the pain. The topic will enhance the understanding of multidisciplinary professionals on cognitive behavioral approaches that can help in managing pain experienced by patients with orofacial disorders. It will cover the fundamental variables in a cognitive behavioral model as well as discuss several recent studies done on psychological management to orofacial pain.

Among other things, the system comprises a range of tools (ex. articulators) to re-establish efficient chewing function as well as optimally coordinated materials (ex. Denture base resin materials) which allow the soft tissues to be reproduced and denture teeth to be joined.

Craniosacral therapy can be thought as the missing puzzle in the efficacy of many dental procedures. As it expands our awareness beyond the mandible and maxilla, it provides a holistic awareness of the dental mechanism and the well being of the dental patient. Whether performed by the dentist, dental assistant or craniosacral therapies, the dental professionals and the patient alike immediately recognized the benefit. It offers the dental profession the ability to solve many instances of craniocervical pain and dysfunction. So, the dental professionals are in unique position to correct underlying anatomical and functional dysfunction that may have been seen or mistreated by other professionals.
